New Logo & Grove Pointe Chili Club

A new year and a new logo, I'm excited! A friend surprised me by emailing me a new banner and some new logos for FacebookTwitter & Google+. Don't worry, I wasn't offended that she didn't think my crooked chalkboard art was good enough, and I was absolutely thrilled with what she sent. Thank you Allison!

Now onto the Grove Pointe Chili Club. You might remember at our last meeting Dennis wowed us with some labor intensive 8 Alarm Chili. It was absolutely delicious, but I was looking for something I could make on a weeknight, you know for those days you just sit at your desk and get a sudden craving for chili. Thanks to Sommer over at A Spicy Perspective I found the answer with her chili. I present you with a giant vat of Beer Chili!

Yes, I know that's a lot of chili, so much there is evidence that it was overflowing down the sides of my 6-3/4 quart dutch oven, but I was feeding 7 and in my mind you can never have too much chili. Chili is ALWAYS good leftover and who doesn't love some nachos with the leftovers?

As Sommer said "Great chili is like a really good friend...loads of intrigue, substance and a little spice" and this chili is spot on. The flavors all really came together nicely and it had just the right amount of kick. The original recipe calls for it to simmer and cook for about 30 minutes, which makes it doable on a weeknight in my book. On the other hand if you have the time, definitely cook it longer as the flavors will come together even better. I let this one simmer for about 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

Bloody Mary

This morning I have a special treat for you, and it's in liquid form. Since I have tickets to the Chiefs at Jets game, I wanted  to share my Bloody Mary recipe with you, this way we can virtually tailgate together! There's nothing fancy about this recipe, it uses ingredients you probably have on hand and is easy to throw together on a Sunday morning.

Also, as a note I like my bloody mary's spicy. It's to the point where my local bartender knows just to hand over the bottle of tabasco with the bloody mary. So adjust the amount of tabasco according to your tastes. On that note, you should really adjust all ingredients according to your preferences, I rarely actually do any sort of measuring when making my bloody mary. The recipe below is for one bloody mary.

Sriracha Meatballs

Sriracha Meatballs

I've told you this before, but I love Sriracha. So it shouldn't be all too surprising to you that I dreamt about Sriracha meatballs. I'm not kidding, it was the night I had this Sriracha Glazed Chicken for dinner so Sriracha was on my mind and it was totally natural. I believe those dreams that don't involve Sriracha or meatballs are called nightmares.

Next step was making my dreams come true and boy did I make that happen. I made so many meatballs we were able to eat them straight up, dipped in Sriracha of course. They were also good dipped in terriyaki sauce

That's right, I said ricotta, now I have the excuse to make this for breakfast. We won't get into the issues I had getting the pizza from the peel to the stone. Let's just say it wasn't pretty and I need some more practice, let's just move onto the recipe that is adapted from Life Ambrosia.

Slow Cooker Butternut Squash, Chicken and Bean Chili

Remember when my husband confessed his love for squash? Well you've probably noticed that I took his words to heart and have been making a lot of squash since.

So when I was at a wedding a couple of weekends ago and someone mentioned they made a really good butternut squash chili in the slow cooker my ears perked. It led to me throwing some butternut squash and a handful of other random ingredients into the slow cooker Tuesday morning and coming home to a delicious dinner. I wasn't sure whether I should consider it a chili or a stew, but I'm going with chili, regardless it's REALLY good. It's in the slow cooker so it's easy and with most of my slow cooker recipes, it's even better leftover!

Remember, don't be intimidated by cutting up the butternut squash, this video that I shared in my Butternut Squash, Black Bean and Spinach Burrito post makes it easy.

Asian Style Baked Chicken Wings

This weeks Gameday post is my mother-in-laws recipe and one of my husband's favorites from growing up. He would invite friends over just to devour pounds of these puppies. Now that he's 31 and finally moved out of his parents house he decided he had to learn how to make them himself. He would make them every weekend if I kept an endless supply of chicken wings on hand. When he makes them for guests he's always getting compliments and they are a hit with both adults and kids. It brought tears to my 2 year old neice when we ran out of them one time. They've been praised by people who don't like the typical buffalo chicken wings. I could go on, but just trust me on this one, you should make these and you'll probably want to double the recipe.
